Day Fifty-Eight: Feb 27th

Canada set some records today - we have now tied the number of gold medals won by a host country, we have beat our personal best medal count, and we have the most number of gold medals in this games (and we still have another major event to go - don't want to jinx). I read the paper a lot and have read a tonne of articles bashing the "Own the Podium" program. Um, isn't this complete domination? Let's ship out the naysayers....Canada is amazing and Vancouver did a A+ job in representing. Love the Olympics. Let's go Canada!

Day Fifty-Seven: Feb 26th

Ash and I had a hardcore Olympic watching session tonight. We watched the ENTIRE women's final curling match - didn't really get what was going on (I've never watched a sport before that they would, at points, rather not score than get a point) but found it entertaining. So close to winning!!
Then we set our sights on to men's hockey - domination station. Can't wait until Sunday!

Day Fifty-Six: Feb 25th

I feel like I haven't embraced the Greek culture since moving to the Danforth, so last night (in the blizzard) we went up to eat at Mezes. The atmosphere was really lively and to Scott's major approval, they had a big screen showing the Women's Hockey Gold medal game. About 5 minutes before our girls won, the entire kitchen staff came out to watch and when the game was over, everyone in the restaurant cheered but no one looked more pleased than the hard workers cooking up the delicious food. I love how the Olympics unifies the country no matter what nationality you are.

Day Fifty-Five: Feb 24th

I've been having a relatively tough time at work over the last few days....maybe the February blah's but likely attributed to some idiotic people I work with. Nonetheless, coming home to the biggest hockey fan in the country is always a pleasure. If you have a bucket list, write down "Watching an important Canadian hockey game with Scott Sloggett"....trust, it is an experience.

Day Fifty-Four: Feb 23rd

My department at work has been recently re-organized. It is now much like having the same parents and siblings but different cousins and grandparents. Today we had a "get to know you" session with our new team. They rented out a movie theater at the local Cineplex and it was a sold out crowd.
My new president seems very nice and gave out prizes at the end of his presentation. As soon as he picked my name out of the box...i knew i was in for it. He stared at it quizzically for a few seconds and then went "Lesley Coco, Kiki, Cookoo, Cookie....etc" until I made my way down the long aisle (I was in the exact back of the theater). Once I got to the front, he made me tell the massive crowd my last name as he chuckled to himself like a mad men.
At least I got a $50 gift card as compensation. C-O-U-G-H-T-R-E-Y

Day Fifty-Three: Feb 22nd

My first shovelling job of the season. You can take the girl out of Ottawa but not the Ottawa out of the girl.

Day Fifty-Two: Feb 21st

What a nightmare. Canada vs. USA game and Canada lost by 2. We had Afrim and Heather over to watch...started the night in a festive, happy mood. Ended the night in a funeral-like depression.

Day Fifty-One: Feb 20th

Had Mrs.Sloggett over to celebrate her b-day (one day early). Hope this is the best year for Jane - she deserves it!

Day Fifty: Feb 19th

I went to the Toronto Auto Show today for work. I went last year as well and I was shocked at the difference between the two. Last year, you would have never seen a car as lux as the one above - all the major car makers really prominently displayed their base models. Seems like a definite sign that the market is improving!

Day Forty-Nine: Feb 18th

So this is officially the gutsiest Blackberry photo I've ever taken....the bus stop was really crowded and the flash illuminated this guy for all to see. Nonetheless, it was worth it (eventhough it is really blurry). This well-dressed, moderately good looking guy had a "This is what a Feminist looks like" badge sewn prominently on his work bag. This, in my opinion, no matter what your gender, this takes guts to wear. Good on you, random stranger!

Day Forty-Eight: Feb 17th

New Bed arrived today - does it not look like the most comfortable place on Earth!?

Day Forty-Seven: Feb 16th

We got our new furnace installed today. I've never spent so much money on something that is a) so ugly and b) so not fun. I guess this is what growing up is?

Keep me warm Little Coleman!

Day Forty-Six: Feb 15th

Family Day Stat Holiday.

I spent the day recovering from the weekend (aka. We drove home and I proceeded to lie in bed and watch the Olympics).

So sad for Jeremy Wotherspoon - I really wish he had gotten even the bronze medal. I can imagine that dominating a sport for a decade but never reaching the top of the Olympic podium is a bit bitter-sweet.

On the other hand....don't you love Mike Robertson? I've never seen a more chilled out elite athlete. I watched an interview with him where the commentator asked how he planned to celebrate and he was like "obviously i hope to pop a couple of brews"...haha. I feel like he and Ross Rebagliati would have A LOT of fun partying together if you catch my drift.

Day Forty-Five: Feb 14th

We went on a hike across the lake....Scotty channelled his inner angel. We had the best Valentine's day dinner made by the Jesse, Scott, and Max. Then we watched Alex Bilodeau win. It was a gold medal night all around.

Day Forty-Four: Feb 13th

Headed up to Jesse's Cottage to hang out for the long weekend. A bit of a Tofino reunion as Max and Pam came as well. It was so beautiful up north...so much snow.

Day Forty-Three: Feb 12th

Opening Ceremonies Vancouver 2010

I'm SO proud to be Canadian and I thought the Opening Ceremonies really captured Canada. To be honest, I had heard a rumour that a hologram of Terry Fox was going to be the final torch barer so, even though I love Gretzky, I was sort of let down.

Nonetheless, I was super happy and honoured to be able to watch the games, in my home country, with some awesome friends.

Let's Go Canada!

Day Forty-Two: Feb 11th

Thanks to my parents amazingness....we bought a bed today! Any out of town visitors...come Wednesday...you will be set up in style!

XO Mom and Dad - you are the best!

Day Forty-One: Feb 10th

Happy Birthday to one of my all time favourite people on the planet - Kate! Have such an amazing birthday Katers!! xoxoxoxo

Day Forty: February 9th

I went to renew my passport today - what a great experience! I was in and out in under 20 minutes and all the staff I dealt with were super friendly and pleasant. My main Passport man, even commented on how neat it was that I was a twin. Creepy-ish that he knew that but a nice shout-out.

I feel like the Ministry of Transportation and Passport Canada should have a little meeting to discuss best practices. Everytime I go to the DMV, I meet people who seemingly hate their lives.

Whatever is in Passport Canada's Kool-Aid, should be shared!

Day Thirty-Nine: Feb 8th

Most Canadian Tire employees are around my age. Seeing anyone above 45 is really rare unless you go up to the top floor where the CEO reigns. Nonetheless, I work beside a guy who defies the norm and has daughters my own age. He is very quirky and funny and today, as he was leaving, said the funniest thing:
I'm going to make like I'm a sheep, and get the flock out of here.
Love him.

Day Thirty-Eight: Feb 7th

Who Dat?
I loved the Superbowl this year - I've never been so into a Football Game. I love how the feel-good winners won! The Pristine's were great host and it was definitely a fun/funny night!

Day Thirty-Seven: Feb 6th

Steph Mason's Bridal Shower was today. It was the first shower I've ever been to that the guests didn't have to play any games! YES!!

Day Thirty-Six: Feb 5th

I went shopping after work today to buy a winter jacket. I found a nice peacoat at 50% off at The Bay.

As I was walking around the Eaton Centre, I spent a lot of time people watching. I came to realize that EVERYONE had a Canada Goose Arctic Program jacket. And I mean EVERYONE. Young, old, women, men - it didn't seem to matter.

Am I really out of touch - when did this company come on the scene and how are they so so so popular!? Where do you even buy this brand!?

Day Thirty-Five: Feb 4th

Today I had my 360 performance feedback at work. Ultimately, I think getting evaluated by everyone you work with (upper levels, lateral levels and subordinates) is a good thing - but it is sort of nerve racking to go through.
I thought perhaps my evaluations would reflect the fact that I HAVE NO CLUE really what the products I help buy actually do - but surprisingly it didn't!
Some nice Warm & Fuzzies are what everyone needs at work and not just once a year. Tell a co-worker you think they are great today - It will make everyone's day, trust.

Day Thirty-Four: Feb 3rd

I think saying that I am obessed with Cat Stevens (or Yusuf Islam) would be putting it mildly. I have listened to the same two songs on repeat all day (Father & Son and Lady D'Arbanville). Thank god for earphones because if not, I'm pretty sure my local cubicle mates would be up in arms.

Day Thirty-Three: Feb 2nd

I love LOST.
I love how it doesn't compromise and dumb down the content for viewers to understand. That being said, I'm not going to bed thinking I can conquer rocket science tonight.
It also makes me want Jacob to choose me to go to the island even though everyone seemingly wants off it. I think I would be honoured to go - Do you feel that way too?

Day Thirty-Two: Feb 1st

Two years of severe Credit Crunch measures have led me up to this - 1st Mortgage Payment Day. Most bizarre feel-good moment of my life.

Day Thirty-One: Jan 31st

Beyonce was the queen of the Grammy's. I almost fell out of my chair when she busted out "You Oughta Know" by my homegirl Alanis.

Day Thirty: Jan 30th

We went to visit Scott's grandfather today. He said he wanted to take us to a little shop where we could have a hot dog and he could buy us some pottery from a local artist as a housewarming gift - honestly, it felt like we were in for quite a doozy of an afternoon. It turned out to be the cutest little place - the meal was really elegant and nice and the pottery was awesome. The artist sold us these pieces himself which felt special.
